St. Paul’s Baptist Church to hold trunk-or-treat event; Albany Police Chief announces trick-or-treating safety tips for Halloween

ALBANY, Ga. – With Halloween just over a day away, local groups and law enforcement in Albany are trying to do everything they can to protect kids on the 31st.

At St. Paul’s Baptist Church in East Albany, Pastor Calvin Rollins is putting the final touches on the church’s trunk-or-treat event Thursday night…

As a way to give local kids a safe way to celebrate.

“We’re gonna do trunk-or-treat, candy, games, activities for kids. Safety is the one of the main reasons why we want to do it. Give our kids a safe environment,” said Pastor Calvin Rollins, St. Paul’s Baptist Church.

And, across the city, law enforcement is working to make sure people celebrate safely.

We spoke with Albany Police Chief, Michael Persley earlier in the week about Halloween safety this year…

“We have put out information about safety tips during Halloween and we want everyone to be safe during this time. We know people will be out trick-or-treating. We know people will go to parties. We’re just asking that whatever these events are, there is some type of adult supervision at these events,” said Chief Michael Persley, Albany Police Dept.

Back at St. Paul’s, there has been some concern from Pastor Rollins for the community in the face of the violence that took place at Albany State University earlier this month…

“They’ll see a difference and they’ll be able to have fellowship and enjoy each other without violence, without thinking in terms of that’s how it’s going to end up. Be afraid to come out, afraid to participate because, you know, they think it’s so much is going to happen,” said Pastor Rollins.

And… the Albany Police Department is encouraging parents to keep in touch with their kids.

“Most of these events will take place at night and we don’t want anyone being lost or being hit because they were out in the streets,” said Chief Persley.

Despite the recent violence, groups like St. Paul’s and the Albany Police are committed to making sure everyone celebrates the holiday safely.

Chief Persley says he’ll be giving safety updates as we enter the holiday season.
