St. Paul’s Baptist Church partners with Morehouse School of Medicine’s Families Implementing Good Health Traditions (F.I.G.H.T) for Life program for diabetes prevention
ALBANY, Ga. – An East Albany church is looking to help the community with their health this weekend.
CBS 44’s Brian Roche has more.
St. Paul’s Baptist Church is partnering with the Morehouse School of Medicine’s Families Implementing Good Health Traditions (F.I.G.H.T) for Life program.
We met with program manager Kenya Baker at the church about partnering locally.
“St. Paul’s Baptist Church has been very instrumental in their health and wellness projects, and so we were lucky enough to have them to come and partner with us to spread the information of our diabetes prevention program,” said Kenya Baker, Project Manager, F.I.G.H.T. for Life program.
They’ll be holding a session to talk about the study with St. Paul’s on Saturday to help educate people in Albany about the prevalence of type 2 diabetes.
“And, this particular program is for not just adults that’s in this area, diabetes prevention programs are for adults only, but ours is the only one that’s for the whole family. One parent with pre-diabetes and one child between the ages of eight and 15-years-old,” said Cindy Jordan, Community Health Worker, F.I.G.H.T for Life.
Saturday’s event with F.I.G.H.T for Life is just the start…
As we were told those in attendance will be able to sign up to take part in a program that will take place over the next few months.
“We are doing a 16 week program for those families and we are just so excited to overall just see the families and see the success stories that we are sure that are going to come and hopefully prevent the onset of diabetes in those families,” said Baker.
Both St. Paul’s Baptist Church and F.I.G.H.T for Life are encouraging everyone, not just those in east Albany to come out Saturday to get a hold of their health.
The information session on fight for life will take place at St. Paul’s Baptist Church on Sylvester Road in East Albany, this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
