Southwest Georgia Creative Network to host 3rd annual “The Class Is in Session” NPR Tiny Desk musical artist auditions
ALBANY, Ga. – The Southwest Georgia Creative Network is set to host its 3rd annual “The Class Is In Session” Tiny Desk event, featuring unforgettable live performances from a lineup of talented artists.
“Started with me releasing the song in 2020 to my very first single, and I wanted to audition for NPR Tiny Desk. I had always seen the tiny desk shows. My very first one was like tank and the bangas and I was like, I want to go on Tiny Desk. So I finally released my first song, learning all the information about tiny desk, called out all of the creators together. I was like, y’all, let’s put together a show. Let’s do it,” said Lyrically True, SWGAC Creative Network Tiny Desk Coordinator.
The event will take place this Saturday, February 1, with doors opening at 6pm and performances beginning at 7 p.m. The showcase will feature a lineup of talented artists, including Ole-E, a renowned artist and engineer who is a pillar of Albany’s music industry.
“I started rapping. I used to write poetry and poems, it started from there. And, then I first started out as a rapper, but then once I got into a studio for the first time, I started playing with a keyboard and everybody was saying, you know, that’s kind of tight. So, I started making beats. So, I became a producer and a rapper. It is humbling. It feels good. And, the musicians, they are top notch, they are fire,” said Ole-E, Featured Artist.
Another artist set to take the stage Saturday is Shevous, who traveled all the way from Jamaica to share his talent with Southwest Georgia. He reflects on what this experience means to him.
“My vibe and taste in music is based on everyday life experiences, you know what I mean? So, it’s a major move. It’s a major move for exposure, it’s out of Jamaica. You know what I mean, it’s a nice vibe to get on an international siting. So, it’s good, very good, that’s what we came here for,” said Shevous, Featured Artist.
With a diverse lineup of talent and a night filled with unforgettable performances, the 3rd annual “The Class Is In Session” Tiny Desk event promises to be a celebration of music and creativity.
