Southwest Georgia Creative Network hosts 3rd annual “The Class Is In Session” NPR Tiny Desk musical artist auditions
ALBANY, Ga. – Over the weekend, the Southwest Georgia Creative Network hosted its third annual “The Class Is In Session” NPR Tiny Desk event, showcasing a diverse lineup of talented artist from Southwest Georgia and beyond.
“Started with me releasing the song in 2020 to my very first single, and I wanted to audition for NPR Tiny Desk. I had always seen the tiny desk shows. My very first one was like tank and the bangas and I was like, I want to go on Tiny Desk. So, I finally released my first song, learning all the information about Tiny Desk, called out all of the creators together. I was like, y’all, let’s put together a show. Let’s do it,” said Lyrically True, SWGAC Creative Network Tiny Desk Coordinator.
The evening featured a lineup of talented artists, each showcasing their unique artistry to the audience.
As part of an audition for NPR’s Tiny Desk series, performers recorded there submission for a chance to appear on the renowned platform.
Among featured artist was Ole-E, a respected artist and engineer widely regarded a pillar of Albany’s music industry.
“I started rapping. I used to write poetry and poems, it started from there. And, then, I first started out as a rapper, but then once I got into a studio for the first time, I started playing with a keyboard and everybody was saying, you know, that’s kind of tight. So, I started making beats. So, I became a producer and a rapper. It is humbling. It feels good. And, the musicians, they are top notch, they are fire,” said Ole-E, featured artist.
The event aimed to provide artist with a platform to share their passion and talent with the world.
Among the performers as Shevous, who traveled from Jamaica to take the stage in Southwest Georgia. He reflects on opportunity to connect with a new audience.
“My vibe and taste in music is based on everyday life experiences, you know what I mean? In every one of my songs, either I experienced it, or a friend of mine. And, I’m pretty sure that at some point in life they have or will experience those things. So, it’s a major move. It’s a major move for exposure, it’s out of Jamaica. You know what I mean, it’s a nice vibe to get on an international siting. So, it’s good, very good, that’s what we came here for. I mean, it’s a lot of eyes on the show right now. It’s eyes that I did not have on me while I was in Jamaica,” said Shevous, featured artist.
