Southern Regional Technical College hosts training for EMS professionals
TIFTON, Ga. – EMS instructors and their peers came together at Southern Regional Technical College in training for EMS professionals across the state of Georgia.
“EMS stands for Emergency Medical Services, which encompasses our first responders, EMRs, our Emergency Medical Responders, EMTs Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced EMTs and the Paramedics. Which is generally who you’re gonna get when you call an ambulance. Primarily our training focuses on pre-hospital care and stabilization,” said Melissa Pullen, Paramedic Program Chair.
State Training Coordinator for the Office of EMS and Trauma, Richard Rhodes, talks more about education in EMS programs.
“So, in the state of Georgia, we license our EMS instructors, which are the ones that teach our initial education programs; EMRs, EMTs, AMTs, and Paramedics. Our instructors teach those from designated EMS programs, and we require that the instructor license have a certain amount of continuing education hours each year in specific categories of instructor hours,” said Richard Rhodes, State Training Coordinator for the Office of EMS and Trauma.
“So, it allows our instructors to come here local and get their instructor hours, network with their peers, and learn the best practices in education. EMS regions are broken into ten different regions, so we travel around the state and do at least one in every region every year,” said Rhodes.
Dee McCoy, Bound Tree Medical Account Manager, says it’s important to be an advocate for EMS.
“We have been the largest EMS supplier in the country for over 46 years and our goal is to provide the products, services and support that any EMS agency needs. Education is always important, and making sure that the instructor are up to date on the latest with help everyone in the long run,” said Dee McCoy, Bound Tree Medical Account Manager.
