Southern Bodies Gym turned up the intensity this weekend, hosting the World Raw Powerlifting Federation Southeastern Championship.

Lifters from across South Georgia came to showcase their strength, with hopes of not only claiming the top spot in their weight class, but also qualifying for the world championship.

The competition featured three key lifts – squat, bench press, and deadlift, with each participant pushing for their personal best.

Despite many meeting for the first time, the energy inside the gym was electric as athletes encouraged one another to reach new heights.

“The event of the day was what we call the Southeastern Championships. It was a state event. And, they get state records today, but it also qualifies them for the worlds that will be having come in November, the second and the eighth. We want to be up in New Jersey on November 2nd, on November 8th to be Peachtree City. So, that’s what they were qualifying for today,” said Adrian Locklear, Head Judge, Announcer.

Powerlifting may be an individual sport, but inside southern bodies gym, it felt like a team effort. Crowds cheered on every competitor, creating an atmosphere that helped many lifters break personal records, whether they’d been lifting for a lifetime or less than a year.

But, beyond the impressive displays of strength, the event made an even bigger impact, with all proceeds going to the Salvation Army to help send kids to summer camp.

“The event went amazing. The energy was unbelievable. The excitement was what was out of this world. All the competitors, all the spectators, the organizers, everybody did an amazing job. We raised all together a little over $1,400 for the Salvation Army. And, send those kids to camp,” said Mickey Jacobs, Owner, Competitor.

Top performers received awards and earned invitations to compete at Worlds in Peachtree City.
