South Georgia Weather Authority Forecast: September 17, 2025
Mugginess is back as humidity levels creep up or slowly rise. Feeling more like summer instead of fall this weekend. Rain chances remain absent until early next week returning only at a measly 20% chance. Abnormally dry conditions cover about 50% of SWGA. We’ll get an update from the U.S. Drought Monitor on Thursday. Albany, GA hasn’t seen any measurable rainfall in 18 days and counting (.27″ on August 30th). September is running the top 10 driest ever and a deficit for the month (-2.17″) & for the year (-3.56″). Flash drought or rapid onset of drought conditions is possible. Water your lawns, gardens, and crops awaiting to be harvested. Be extremely cautious as outdoor burning is not advised. 5 days until Fall officially arrives with the Autumnal Equinox, September 22 at 2:19 pm!
In the tropics, the Atlantic season’s 7th named storm, Tropical Storm Gabrielle, has formed. Gabrielle is expected to slowly strengthen and may approach Bermuda as a hurricane early next week. Elsewhere, a tropical wave over the far east-central tropical Atlantic has a low chance for slow development as it moves through a marginally conductive environment over the next few days as areas of heavy rains affect the Cabo Verde Islands. Another tropical wave is forecast to move off the coast of west Africa by Friday. Some slow development of this system is possible as it moves WNW across the eastern tropical Atlantic this weekend into early next week.
