South Georgia Weather Authority Forecast: January 28, 2026
Sub-freezing temperatures in the mornings with a slight moderation during the afternoons for the rest of the week. Arctic express arrives over the weekend with dangerous and damaging cold. The coldest air of the season could rival similar cold outbreaks in late December 2022, early January 2012, and mid-January 2011. A strong arctic cold front will blast across the region on Saturday morning. A few brief and unimpactful snow flurries are possible on Saturday. Blustery conditions develop with northwesterly wind gusts 25-35 mph. A damaging deep hard freeze is expected both Sunday and Monday mornings areawide. Widespread temperatures in 15-20 degree range on Sunday morning will pose a strong risk of damaging pipes and property. Single digit wind chills with even a few miles-per-hour stronger wind speeds could challenge sub-zero values. Frostbite and/or hypothermia can occur if proper cold weather safety precautions are not taken.
