South Georgia Medical Center's Volunteen Program
VALDOSTA, GA – The South Georgia Medical Center is calling all high-school students, who aspire to be nurses or doctors to join its Volunteen Summer Program.
“Well, it’s a great opportunity for our high-school students to experience the healthcare environment. If they’re wondering what to do for a career path, it gives them a chance to experience both clinical and non-clinical departments,” said Dana Massingill, Director of Physician Relations.
Director Massingill tells me that she’s looking for specific qualities in each candidate for the program.
“At least A, B average, so a good student. Someone that has a volunteer heart that wants to volunteer, and thinks they have a little bit of interest in the healthcare environment,” said Massingill.
Dana Massingill also tells me about the many opportunities students will have to work with medical professionals in the program.
“The experience of first hand, working with physicians, all kinds of clinical credentialed employees. It’s very seldom that high school students will get that first hand experience.”
Applying for the Volunteen Program is a simple process as well.
“You can go to our website at sgmc.org/volenteen. Apply online. It’s a simple application process and we’ll reach out for your next steps,” said Massingill.
Submission for the Volunteen Program closes in late April.
