Sherwood Acres Elementary learning beyond the classroom with Lü Interactive Playground System by innovation grant

ALBANY, Ga. – The Dougherty County School System is unveiling a new piece of tech geared towards not only improving learning for kids, but getting them active as well.

At first, it may seem like an ordinary projection, but as we found out, this is a system called the Lü Interactive Playground System.

And, after installing the system earlier this month, there’s a sense of optimism around the tech.

“We’re excited and our kids are excited. Again, any time you can merge and fuse different aspects of learning together, that’s a good thing. And, our kids are enjoying it and so are the adults,” said Alphonese Wilson, School Improvement Specialist, Sherwood Acres Elementary.

The Lü system is fairly simple, it helps kids by giving them basic school subjects such as math and geography to name a couple…

All while helping to keep them active.

“So, we do want the kids outside. We want them inside. But, what our goal was to merge academics with physical education, and that’s what the Lü has done. So, at the very least, you can incorporate physical activity. But, what we love about it is the ability to incorporate learning while they’re getting their physical activity,” said Wilson.

The school had applied for an innovation grant in 2023, and with over $100,000 in funding, they were able to make the system a reality.

And, in only a couple of weeks following installation, it’s a major hit with the students.

“Since we installed the Lü and students have been interacting with it. They are asking to go to the gym more often then they normally do. So, they normally only get to go to the gym once or twice a week, depending on the grade level. Now they’re asking to go every day,” Wilson.

The Dougherty County School System has helped Sherwood Acres Elementary apply for the innovation grant each of the last five years.
