S.A.S.S. student organization & ASU student-athletes support breast cancer research with volleyball fundraiser
ALBANY, Ga. – One student organization is joining the fight against breast cancer. One spike at a time.
Bree Howard and Aymber Allen, Community Service Chairs of S.A.S.S, organized a weekend fundraiser dedicated to supporting individuals affected by breast cancer.
“So, we have a volleyball game going on for the Breast Cancer Association, and we’re donating all the money to them. We’re basically just trying to help cancer research and help them find a cure,” said Bree Howards, S.A.S.S. Community Service Chair.
ASU students, including many student-athletes, gathered to support this mission, demonstrating a unified commitment to the cause.
“We’re partnering today with S.A.S.S., which is the student-athletes on campus. So, that’s all student athletes as basketball, football, track, soccer, baseball, softball, everybody. They’re really helping with this event by playing. I’m having people help with concessions as well. Raffles. They are helping a lot today. So we thank them as well,” said Aymber Allen, S.A.S.S. Community Service Chair.
Bree and Aymber share insight about the S.A.S.S organization and its mission.
“S.A.S.S. is students advocating for stronger sisterhood is basically where a bunch of women on campus come together, whether you’re colored or you’re not colored. And, we basically try to support each other as a sisterhood,” said Bree.
“We do a lot of community service on campus and off campus and with other orgs on campus as well,” said Aymber.
They also discussed the process they took to organize the fundraiser, offering a glimpse into the planning and dedication required to make the event happen.
“This is an annual thing. We do this every single year, but this is our first time on e-board and being over the event. So, it was different for us this year because we’re really people that’s hands on with it this year,” said Aymber.
“So, the process is has been fun, but it has been a lot of hard work. We started in the summer and it has just been a lot to put together. But, we’re very grateful for the funds that we will receive,” said Bree.
The S.A.S.S organization conveyed an uplifting and encouraging message for those affected by breast cancer, offering hope and support to individuals and families impacted by the disease.
“I would like to encourage anybody who doesn’t have breast cancer to do things like this. More things like this, raising money, raising awareness because it is a tough time for the people who have it and the survivors as well,” said Bree.
