“Volunteers are a critical component of our organization. Anywhere from interns who come and work with us in our shelter to get hours of credit for their school, to groups of people that might do a special event for the organization. We also have volunteers who might do clerical support, organizing, doing a fundraiser or doing an event for the shelter residents. All kinds of ways that people can volunteer. And, we will talk about that at the orientation,” said Nancy Bryan, executive director.

Nancy Bryan, executive director of Ruth’s Cottage and The Patticake House, discusses the organization’s outreach and education plans within the community for the year of 2024.

“2024 will be plenty of outreach and education in our community, and that’s a real important component of our organization and the services we do. If we’re not out in the community talking about what we can offer folks, they will not know to call us. January begins the year as National Stalking Awareness Month and human trafficking awareness. So, our social media will show opportunities to learn more on those subjects. February is Teen Dating Violence Prevention Month, and so we’ll be having special events for that, including a movie preview that will be in downtown Tifton later in February,” said Bryan.

Individuals interested in offering assistance are encouraged to reach out without hesitation.

“Anybody that’s ever been curious about our organization wanted to know ways they could help. As a volunteer, you’re welcome to come. We have an RSVP preferred, but it’s not required, and you could just give us a call at (229) 387-9697 or find us on social media and just let us know you’re coming. Bring a friend,” said Bryan.
