Ruth’s Cottage and Patticake House seeking funding to purchase bus for transportation of clients
TIFTON, Ga. – Ruth’s Cottage and the Patticake House are reaching out to the community for support in their newest initiative.
The non-profit organization is launching a new project aimed at significantly enhancing the lives of its clients.
They are currently seeking funding to support their mission of acquiring a bus for client transportation.
“Our new bus will be utilized to transport our shelter residents to a variety of places in the community where they need to go to get the services that they need. And, so, the initiative for this bus came about because, since we moved into a large building, we’re able to accept those residents who need to be in wheelchairs, but we’ve not been able to transport them anywhere. So, they’ve been just landlocked in our shelter. And, so, it has been our dream to be able to have a vehicle that could safely accommodate wheelchair bound folks,” said Nancy Bryan, Executive Director, Ruth’s Cottage and the Patticake House.
Nancy Bryan, executive director of Ruth’s Cottage & the Patticake House, explains how the bus would be utilized to support their clients in multiple ways.
“So, our program provides services to victims of child abuse, sexual assault, human trafficking and domestic violence. And, so, those victims can come in all shapes and sizes and ages and abilities. And, so, across the board, should we need to do any transporting of any client that has those special needs, we would be able to safely do that now? We help clients get jobs and so we transport them to interviews. We have folks come to us who have no I.D. on them at all. So, it might be a trip to the Department of Driver Services. It could be social security, could be a medical trip, a trip to a pharmacy to pick up prescription drugs. And, then, also some mental health. We provide it in shelter, but sometimes there are mental health and other appointments outside of shelter that require us to make that transport,” said Bryan.
There are numerous ways individuals can support Ruth’s Cottage & the Patticake House in bringing this important initiative to life.
“One of the quick things I can do is just follow us on social media. We have a Facebook page and Instagram, Ruth’s Cottage & the Patticake House, and there are links on those two to give via Venmo or instructions on how to mail a check. If anybody is just not sure how they want to donate. They can just give us a call and we can provide better options. We just really depend on the support of our communities and donations for a lot of what we’re able to do. We’re fortunate to get grants to do a lot of the services that we provide, but we’re very, very much incumbent on the generosity of others, and especially with this large purchase, the largest single purchase we’ve made in the history of this organization. We really need the help from the community to make that happen,” said Bryan.
