Rotary Club of Cordele donates hundreds of books to Crisp Co. Pre-K students

CORDELE, Ga. – I’m here in the hallways of Crisp County Pre-K, where they just got some very special visitors. The Rotary Club in Cordele just donated 450 books to young students.

The Rotary Club’s mission is to unite and create positive change in the community.

Thanks to a grant, they were able to do just that, donating hundreds of books to Pre-K students, fostering a love for reading early on.

“Part of our mission is to increase the education. And, we want kids to read books. We think by giving them books they can carry home help fulfills that mission,” said Liz Clarke, Rotary Club of Cordele, member.

For Liz and fellow Rotary Club members, supporting Crisp County Pre-K goes beyond book donations. They are dedicated to promoting education at home and teaching children about healthy food choices.

“They are so excited about getting new things. And, really enjoy new people coming in. It bring life to the school, it bring excitement and they love to see what new is being brought and what they can learn from them,” said Kathy Gill, Academic Support Specialist, Crisp Co. Pre-K.

But, the impact didn’t stop at book donations. Each class got to enjoy a special story time, where Rotary Club members read “A Green, Green Garden”.

A moment of joy and learning, leaving students with not just a book, but a memory to cherish.

“Very important for these kids to get books into there hands because reading is important. We read to them every day. However they don’t all have books at home. So, it’s important that people like the Rotary Club come in and give them books. They’re able to go home and read with their families,” said Shanta Bowen, Crisp Co. Pre-K Teacher.
