Rosalynn Carter tribute service held at Glenn Memorial Church in Atlanta, funeral planned for Wednesday morning at Maranatha Baptist Church, Plains residents react to her passing
PLAINS, Ga. – As the city of Plains gets set to say goodbye to former First Lady Rosalynn Carter Wednesday, we managed to speak with a few people in Plains Tuesday to say their peace about the former First Lady.
Jan Williams has lived in Plains for years, went to Maranatha Baptist Church with the Carters and even taught their children…
She spoke about missing someone who was a dear friend.
“…Mrs. Rosalynn taught our youth classes at our church for many years. But, her teaching that she taught to us here in Plains is that it’s about action. Helping each other…” said Jan Williams, Plains resident.
The hometown of the Carters had visitors, one of whom had been visiting for over two decades and spoke about the humanitarian work of Rosalynn…
“It’s a great sadness for this area. They’re very involved with their churches, with their communities, with their parades, with their hometown, small events. They’re just very good humanitarian people. They’ve done a lot of good, not just for the Plains area, but the entire world in different ways,” said Laura Fields, Arcadia.
The funeral is set to take place at Maranatha Baptist Church Wednesday morning, and for Plains residents like Jan, it will finally be the chance to process the passing of the former First Lady.
“I think once all of this is over with, I will find that I’ll be sitting down and thinking about all the wonderful memories I have of her, and what she’s left for us to do…” Jan Williams, Plains resident.
While Wednesday will be a difficult day for the community, they will always have the memory of all that Rosalynn Carter has done.
“It’s just a quiet, quaint community. Very close knit family and a lot of these people have been intertwined with the Carter family for a very, very long time,” said Laura Fields, Arcadia.
For people in Plains, the next 24 hours will be difficult as they say farewell and process the passing Rosalynn Carter.
CBS 44’s Brian Roche will be LIVE in Plains Wednesday at noon for coverage of Rosalynn Carter’s funeral.
