Road reopens, 8 injured in 12 vehicle multi-car collision on Hwy 19 in Schley Co., GSP investigating
SCHLEY Co., Ga. – According to the Schley County Sheriff’s Office, the portions of the roadway that had previously been closed due to a major vehicle accident has reopened following a multi-car collision that involved a total of twelve vehicles early this morning.
According to a deputy, an initial crash was between two vehicles at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Old Highway 19.
A tractor trailer (semi) then reportedly plowed into one of the vehicles.
Other vehicles involved were not able to brake in time to prevent additional collisions causing additional pileups.
Officials say that dense fog may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Americus Post is investigating. In the accident, eight people were transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
