Remains of Korean War Soldier to be buried in Valdosta
FORT KNOX, Ky. – The remains of U.S. Army Master Sgt. Roy E. Barrow, a Soldier killed during the Korean War, will be interred Jan. 27 at Riverview Memorial Gardens, Valdosta, Georgia. Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta, will perform graveside services preceding the interment.
A native of Valdosta, Barrow was a member of King Company, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was reported missing in action Dec. 12, 1950, after his unit withdrew from fighting enemy forces near the Chosin (Changjin) Reservoir, North Korea.
In 1954, a set of remains designated Unknown X-15869, was returned to the United States during Operation GLORY and interred in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. The remains were disinterred in 2013 for laboratory analysis.
Barrow was accounted for by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Sept. 22, 2023.
