Registration now open for 19th annual Albany COMBOS® Marathon and Half Marathon set for March 1st

February 17, 2025
Matthew Crumley, Brian Roche,

ALBANY, Ga. – With Spring right around the corner, an Albany tradition is only a couple of weeks away.

CBS 44’s Brian Roche has more.

In just a couple of weeks, hundreds of runners are going to gather here on front street to take their place at the starting line for the annual Albany marathon.

We met with Race Director, Rashelle Minix to talk about how many people they’re expecting for the 19th annual COMBOS® Marathon.

“We are expecting about 800 runners to come this year. So, that will be a good amount of folks coming in on Friday, spend the night in our hotels and giving Albany a good boost to our economics,” said Rashelle Minix, Race Organizer, Albany COMBOS® Marathon.

The marathon will take those hundreds of runners through the most scenic parts of the city…

And… for anyone concerned about it impacting traffic, you won’t have to worry about road closures.

“We don’t do any road closures, but we do partial lane closures. So if you’re trying to get around Albany on March 1st, there are going to be some delays with the runners. The runners do come before their vehicles. So, we just ask that everybody’s patient and takes their time as they’re maneuvering around town,” said Minix.

Rashelle has been one of the long time organizers for the Albany marathon, and next year’s event will mark a major milestone.

As she looks back on nearly 20 years of Albany marathons.

“…You look back over the time and the way the ups and the downs of the marathon and the runners and we’ve become a top qualifier for Boston within the top ten qualifications. And, I think it’s really important for, you know, the community to come together and really celebrate this,” said Minix.

And… if you’re interested in running in the marathon or volunteering, you still have plenty of time to sign up.

The marathon will take place on Saturday, March 1st, starting at 7 a.m.

If you’re interested in registering you can call 229-317-4760 or visit the Albany Welcome Center on North Front Street.
