Reed Bingham State Park to host First Day Hike on New Year’s Day

ADEL, Ga. – Those looking to kick off 2026 with fresh air and a bit of exercise can do so at Reed Bingham State Park, which is hosting a First Day Hike on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

The hike is part of a statewide initiative by Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, which host First Day Hikes at parks and historic locations across Georgia each New Year’s Day. The annual tradition encourages people of all ages to start the year outdoors, with ranger-led hikes scheduled throughout the day at locations statewide, including later options for those who prefer a slower start to the morning.

At Reed Bingham State Park, the ranger-led hike will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. along the Little River Trail, offering visitors a guided walk through one of South Georgia’s scenic natural areas. Along the way, park rangers will share insight into wiregrass habitats, the role of prescribed fire in maintaining the ecosystem, and the plants and wildlife native to the Coastal Plain region.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle. A valid park pass and parking fee are required to attend.

For more information about the First Day Hike at Reed Bingham State Park or to find a hike at another Georgia State Park or Historic Site, visitors can contact the park at 229-896-3551 or explore the Georgia State Parks website.
