Police confirm identity of Albany fisherman’s body found after search ends in pond behind Mt. Zion Baptist Church

ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany Police Department has been searching for a male that fell into a pond behind Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Two males were fishing when their boat capsized around noon on Thursday. The surviving male was able to call for help.

As of 6 p.m. this evening, Albany Police Chief Michael Persley said that dive teams had recovered the body after hours of searching. Officials are now trying to contact his family.

The APD has identified the victim as 58-year-old Gary Randall.

The Dougherty County Police Department (DCPD), Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Albany Fire Department (AFD), Lee County Fire Department’s Dive Team, and Dougherty County EMS assisted with the search.

The Albany Fire Department Dive Team and Lee County’s Dive Team used an aquatic drone and other items in the search.
