Plains says final farewell to Former President Jimmy Carter as funeral services are held at Maranatha Baptist Church
PLAINS, Ga. – Today is the day the country says its final farewell to Former President Jimmy Carter.
CBS 44’s Brian Roche joins us live in Plains.
Brian, what’s the atmosphere like out there?
Cameron, I’m along the funeral route where just a couple of hours from now, the hearse for former President Carter will come down North Bond Street, passing by many of the places that were important to Jimmy Carter’s life.
These include the train station where Carter announced his run for president in the 1970s, as well as the high school where he would meet his wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
This then leads just around half a mile down the road from where we are to Maranatha Baptist Church, wherein Carter famously taught Sunday School for many years.
And… you can see behind me, the roads in Plains are set up for the thousands they’re expecting today to bear the low temperature to say their final goodbyes to the former President.
We’ll have more from the Carter funeral tonight at 6.
