Phoebe seeing rise in COVID-19, Flu, RSV, other disease and sickness admissions

ALBANY, Ga. – In the aftermath of the holiday season the Phoebe Health System is putting out a reminder as many in the area are dealing with different sicknesses.

Phoebe Nurse Practitioner, Carmen Bradshaw says that they’ve seen plenty of cases in the likes of Flu, COVID-19 and RSV.

And, it’s no surprise in the post-holiday travel period.

“Towards the end of the year, we did see quite a significant increase with Flu and COVID and stuff starting back up towards the last week of December. And, also, with everybody traveling, there may have been some overlay and people crossed paths with others who were contagious at the time…” said Carmen Bradshaw, Nurse Practitioner, Phoebe North campus.

According to Phoebe’s records, in the month of December, the health system admitted nearly 100 people for various diseases.

Bradshaw tells us that in addition to a spike in Flu and COVID admissions, Phoebe is seeing plenty of other diseases make the rounds.

“We of course have seen other viruses that have popped up. We’ve seen RSV at this time of year. Adenovirus, Rhinovirus, and just all the basic stuff you would expect this time of year…” said Bradshaw.

And, given the severity of the outbreak of RSV in Georgia over the last year. Plus, there’s always concern about the health of children.

“There’s always a concern when we’re talking about our children. Children that are usually younger than six months, usually do not do as well, they seem to have more severe cases of it. And, they may have spikes of fevers, or fever doesn’t always have to be present in RSV… said Bradshaw.

Given how many are coming into Phoebe sick, Nurse Bradshaw says the best thing you can do for yourself as always to stay at home if you aren’t feeling well.

“If you’re feeling ill, always stay home and protect others from coming down with what you may be coming down with. Always, if you’re concerned with any symptoms you’re having, to contact your healthcare providers…” said Bradshaw.

And, Bradshaw tells us if you are really concerned to seek out care immediately.
