Phoebe partners with ARC to provide opportunities to those with disabilities

ALBANY, Ga. – Phoebe partners with the ARC to provide career opportunities for people who have disabilities.

Last year, Phoebe began a partnership with the Advocacy Resource Center of Southwest Georgia, who provide homes, vocational rehabilitation, college, and career opportunities.

“This has really been a wonderful partnership with the arc, because they’re able to provide support to these individuals on the job. They come to work with them for the first three months to make sure that they’re grasping their duties and that there are no challenges or accommodations needed for these individuals. In the event that there are of course we provide those accommodations to make sure the individual is successful,” said Dr. Jennifer Williams, Chief Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Benefit Officer.

Nicholas Daniel, a participant of project ARC, talks about working with Phoebe and the ARC.

“My first experience with working at phoebe, it was a kind of new experience for me just like anyone who basically applies for a new job. Basically, everyone was really helpful with me getting an application here. Everyone was friendly with me, and even after I got the job, they began showing me the ropes and how to do my job properly and efficiently,” said Nicholas Daniel, Project ARC participant.

Daniel was just 18 years old when he moved on his own to Albany.

“Most of the hardships I faced, it was basically here coming to Albany. Beginning about 2017, I basically came here for job core to get training in a trade. But even at that time, one of our instructors, they were leaving while our group was coming in. So, we didn’t have an instructor for like two to three years. But I learned the nuances of being in job core. Phoebe and the people I’m with, arc, it’s not about money, or idealistic, or anything like that. It’s mostly about people. It’s the people that they work with, and that work with them that makes it all the worth while,” said Daniel.
