Phoebe Network of Trust School Health Program hosts 9th Annual ‘Ties That Bind’ event
ALBANY, Ga. – Dougherty county leaders came together early Friday afternoon for a Father’s Day tradition. A program going on for nearly 10 years known, as the ‘Ties That Bind.’
We got to speak with four young men from Albany, all of whom took part in their first ‘Ties That Bind.’
And… for brothers, Dyson and Kantrell Harris, it means the world to them.
“It means very well to me,” said Dyson Harris, Albany.
“It means a lot. It just feels so good and so great,” said Kantrell Harris, Albany.
For the other two boys, they were ecstatic as well to not only receive a tie…
But… learning how to tie it as well while a lot getting some life lessons from community leaders, such as Dougherty County Sheriff-Elect, Terron Hayes.
“It feels good, it feels great to come here and see everybody just bond together,” said Dylon Harris, Albany.
“Yeah, it feels good for the younger men and older men coming together in our community coming together and helping the younger kids that need help and stuff,” said Isaiah Robrson.
And… for young men like these to get to share an experience with community leaders, whether they’re in law enforcement, healthcare, or serving in the marines, feels like something unique to them.
“It just, it’s an honor to have these ties, and to be inside in this event,” said Dylon Harris, Albany.
As well, it’s a great gesture to show that these kids can have a bright future ahead of them.
“It means like a lot that these community leaders just decide to come over and pick 50 random people just to tie ties, and symbolize us going out there and going far for our lives,” said Kantrell Harris, Albany.
For the young men we spoke to, they feel empowered knowing that the major community players have their backs.
Other community leaders on hand for the event included Albany Parks and Recreation Director, Steven Belk, and several local pastors.
