Phoebe hosts annual Lights Of Love Tree Lighting Ceremony
ALBANY, Ga. – Well, Cameron, it may be a little dark behind me but not for long as Phoebe is about to get underway with their annual Lights of Love Tree Lighting Ceremony.
And, here at the main campus, the tree is always lit by someone who was treated and cured at the Phoebe Cancer Center.
This year’s tree lighter is is local veteran and retired Albany firefighter, George Green.
And, George is a particularly special case because not only is he a cancer survivor, but he also serves as a men’s health advocate and encourages them to get prostate screenings.
Now year in and year out, the tree lighting isn’t just about honoring the success stories from the Phoebe Cancer Center, but helping those who are still battling the disease as well.
In the more than 40 years they’ve been doing the Lights of Love Tree Lighting Ceremony, the Phoebe Cancer Center has raised over a million dollars, with all of that money going towards local cancer patients.
We’ll have the full story from the ceremony tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
