Phoebe announces return to normal operations

ALBANY, Ga. – As we continue to warm up following Winter Storm Enzo, the Phoebe Health System has announced a return to regular operations.

Nearly half a foot of snow and lingering ice on the roads is hazardous to our area, and for the Phoebe Health System it’s been a difficult last few days.

Emergency Preparedness Manager, Julie Miller tells us how they’ve had to work around this rare snowfall.

“We had done some leaning forward, as we call it, in my world, to be able to watch the weather. Tremendous partners with National Weather Service. So, we knew what was coming our way, had a good idea of what we thought was actually going to make it to ‘ground zero’, if you will,” said Julie Miller, Emergency Preparedness Mgr., Phoebe Health System.

And, they’ve been working around the clock throughout the week, even up until the announcement early Thursday afternoon about return to normal operations to make sure they could still see patients in emergencies.

“So, we were able to do that. We also started off with some salt as well as some sand for many of our entryways. So it’s one thing to be able to come to a location to receive emergency care, but it’s another thing to make sure that you can actually get through the parking lot as well as get into the to the building through the walkway. So, we were working on that before the storm hit and continue to work on that even through this morning,” said Miller.

As well, Julie told us what they were doing for phoebe staff to make sure they weren’t stuck trying to get to the hospital on icy roads.

“Some people didn’t realize that the volume of snow that we were going to actually get in some of our rural communities; we had a lot of staff that commute in from some of the outlying communities, some contiguous counties to Dougherty. And, so, we had some staff, we had basically a transportation team that were going out to pick up staff, to bring them in, to provide direct care to our patients,” said Miller.

With the worst of the winter storm hopefully behind us, the phoebe health system is optimistic about helping those in need on a regular schedule.

“We’re here to provide services. We want we want you to be safe. But, if for some reason that you need to receive emergency care, we’re open. We’re open in all of our urgent cares as well as the emergency center. And, we will be full force tomorrow. Business as usual,” said Miller.

The Phoebe Health System also provided accommodations for more than 330 members of the hospital’s staff.
