Pedestrian dies after Crisp Co. school bus collision with APD cruiser, 3 injured

ALBANY, Ga. – A major Albany traffic accident involving law enforcement and Crisp county students.

CBS 44’s Brian Roche joins us live at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 7th Avenue.

Brian the scene may be cleared, but what do we know about this accident.

The scene here in north Albany was a terrible one early Friday afternoon, as an Albany Police cruiser collided with a Crisp County School System bus bringing students into town for a track meet.

As the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) told us, the collision between cruiser and the bus has impacted more than just those on the road.

First Class Trooper, Justin Lewis says that the cruiser was already on its way to another crime happening within the city.

“The APD officer was running code to a burglary in progress call. They were traveling east through the intersection. The school bus and the APD officer actually connected, and spun the bus around,” said Justin Lewis, Trooper First Class, Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

Unfortunately as we found out, another person was involved in the wreck.

“There was actually a pedestrian on the other side of the sidewalk, standing there, and pinned between the traffic light and the school bus,” said Trooper Lewis.

And… as far as severity goes, most have been treated, but concerns for the pedestrian remain.

“As far as the pedestrian, there’s a possibility of leg loss. And, as far as the APD officer, I think everybody is good…” said Trooper Lewis.

While the Crisp county students have been examined and are okay, we do not have an update on the condition of the Albany Police Department officers at this time.

The Georgia State Patrol is leading the investigation involving the wreck.

As of late this evening, we have learned the pedestrian that was struck has died.
