CBS 44 spoke with Crisp County Sheriff, Billy Hancock Monday morning before the procession about Browne, and honoring a young man who became a brother to his fellow deputies.

“Everybody knows this guy. They know this young man. He worked in the jail, he worked his way up through there. He went to mandate school. Went through there. So he’s touched everybody in this agency at some point at some time. We’ve all sat around with him, talked and laughed, or even in my case, corrected him a little bit,” said Sheriff Billy Hancock, Crisp Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Alongside law enforcement from across the state coming to Cordele to pay their respects to their fallen brother, the Crisp county community showed their full display of support along the procession…

Including someone who knew Browne, and how much of a kind soul he was.

“He had a really good personality. He was very caring, loving, if you needed something, eh was always there to provide it. He was just a really caring, and sweet soul,” said Audrey Jones, Crisp Co. resident.

And, a pair of Cordele women we caught up with during the procession talked about the county coming out and showing their support to the Sheriff’s office in the most dire of times.

“I’ve lived here my whole life, and I’ve never seen anything quite like this…” said Betty Avera, Cordele resident.

“I would like to say one other thing. My heart and my prayers certainly go out to Deputy Browne’s mother and his family along with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Department,” said Ann Carter, Cordele resident.

And, in addition to the outpouring of support from law enforcement across the state and the local community, Sheriff Hancock shared the strongest of words coming from Tyee’s mother…

“Y’all are tyee’s family. Tyee loves y’all and he would want anything for y’all and in fact, it is so close to what she said when we said, ‘will you tell us what you want as a funeral, and we’ll make it happen,’ and she said, ‘no, y’all tell us,” said Sheriff Billy Hancock, Crisp Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Many of the people we spoke to off camera say that as the friends and family of deputies and dispatchers, Deputy Tyee Browne was ‘one of a kind.’
