Part 3: Online health and fitness coach ZsaTiera White
LOS ANGELES, Cal. – Being that this is our Black History Month segment, honoring black men and women and their accomplishments, I would like to ask you, what are some or who are some black figures, historical or modern, that may have inspired you to be who you are today?
“There’s so many that it is so hard to choose. We have our standard like our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, but for me right now, it would have to be Lewis Latimer, because Lewis Latimer made the component that is the light bulb, not the actual light bulb, like Thomas Edison created the actual frame of the light bulb. But, to know that somebody put it in one little piece and that made it a part of a bigger puzzle. I want to be for myself, be that one little piece of change that changes a big picture,” said ZsaTiera White, online health & fitness coach.
“I may not be Thomas Edison, but if I’m that one piece that keeps moving things forward in the right direction, especially in the health space, then I feel like I’ve done what God has called me to do, which is making sure that my people know that we have options. We don’t have to go to a gym. We can start off with just walking. We can start off with a drink and our water. But knowing that we can take one little step at a time and then we can teach the next person, just like I showed you, and you can show the next person how the things that you learned that helped you. We can keep making sure we push our culture in the right direction. So, I definitely have to say Lewis Latimer,” she said.
So, being that you were inspired by Lewis Latimer, I know that you said you want to leave your mark on this world. So, if there is anything that you would like to say to young black boys and black girls around the world, what is the message that you would leave them?
“I would definitely say take care of your health and take care of your health now. We take health for granted. We take tomorrow for granted. We take today for granted. And, I feel like the main thing that we should do as people, period, young elderly, we should take advantage of the fact that we have today. Like if you’re able to listen to this recording and if you are able to listen to this conversation, that means you have a moment to do something. Whether it is to walk or if you’re not able to walk, make sure you drink water or whatever it is,” she said.
“I had a client that was adaptive and he called me on a daily basis to make sure that we went to the adaptive pool and we swam, or we went on an adaptive bike and we moved around. Where my 74-year-old client, she’s visually impaired. So, there’s just no excuse not to take care of yourself. And, I really want to drive home that it’s important to start somewhere and start now,’ she said.
Thank you so much Zsa, for being here with me and allowing me to pick your brain and interview you today.
