NWS Confirms Two Tornadoes from Monday's Storms
DECATUR COUNTY, GA – The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Florida has determined that damage from Monday’s storms in Decatur county was caused by two EF-1 tornadoes.
According to their survey, the first tornado touched down at approximately 1:40 pm briefly near Lake Douglas Road, moved rapidly east, crossing Alday Road before dissipating in a heavily-wooded area.
Widespread damaging straight-line winds surrounded this tornado’s path.
This tornado was estimated to have had maximum winds between 100-105 miles per hour.
A second tornado touched down approximately at 1:48 pm near Salem Church Road and Handville Road damaging a farm and crossing a field before dissipating near Bradley Street just north of the town of Climax.
The tornado caused significant damage to trees and to a farm equipment storage building along the path, pulling a very heavy concrete footing up from the ground.
The tornado was estimated to have had maximum winds between 90-95 miles per hour.
No injuries or fatalities were reported from either tornadoes.
