Notice of Sanitary Sewer Overflow
Residents should avoid contact with water in the canal for the next 30 days as a precaution.
ALBANY, Ga. – On the evening of Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. the City of Albany experienced a sanitary sewer overflow upstream of Lift Station 82 due to high flows associated with heavy rain at the station.
An estimated 70,000 gallons of diluted sewage was discharged into the Percosin Canal system near the 2100 block of West Oakridge Drive.
As soon as the overflow was discovered, crews responded and took measures to reduce and control the overflow.
Residents should avoid contact with water in the canal for the next 30 days as a precaution.
No City of Albany drinking water systems were affected.
