New police chief sworn in for Ocilla Police Department
OCILLA, Ga. – On Wednesday, November 19, 2025 Bill Barrs was sworn in as the new Police Chief for the Ocilla Police Department.
He has 29 total years of law enforcement experience.
He spent 8 years with the Fitzgerald Police Department as the Captain Of Detectives, 1 year at the Nashville Police Department as a patrolman, and 20 years with the Ocilla Police Department serving as a patrolman, Sgt. Detective, S.R.O. as most recently as Deputy Chief of Police.
He is a lifelong resident of Irwin County and has been involved in many community activities including coaching youth sports and being one of the radio voices of the Irwin County Indians football team.
