New Pediatric Unit at Colquitt Regional
Colquitt Regional decided to make the Pediatric Center completely different from the rest of the hospital.
MOULTRIE, Ga. – The Colquitt Regional Medical Center has a new pediatric unit that could save time and provide better care for the children of Moultrie.
“One of the big things we brought in is the ability to monitor all of our patients cardiac and continuous pulse oximetry, things we couldn’t do before in a community based hospital,” said Dr. Woodwin Weeks, Pediatrics Unit Director.
Colquitt Regional decided to make the Pediatric Center completely different from the rest of the hospital.
“This is probably one of the scariest times of their lives. So when we come in we just want it to be bright, happy, and playful,” said RN/CRN Toni Riddle, Vice President of Nursing at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Before, pediatric patients had to travel long distances to get care.
“Most of our pediatric patients had to travel between two and four hours depending on which hospital would accept them,” said Dr. Weeks.
But, now patients have help that’s closer to home.
“We thought if we could go ahead and make a unit where some of those lower acuity kids could stay in there home town that definitely helps the family,” said Dr. Weeks.
Doctor Weeks tells me things like this always start with a commitment…
“We’re committed to keeping them here, as long as it’s safe, as long as we have the resources, we’re committed to keeping them in their community,” said Dr. Weeks.
