New K-9 unit helps make arrests on methamphetamine charges in Grady Co.

CAIRO, Ga. – Two arrested for trafficking methamphetamine:

This past Friday, shortly after nightfall, the Grady County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant that resulted in the arrest of Roger Chason and David Kennedy—both well known to law enforcement.

During the search, deputies seized a large quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana, pills, currency, and a significant amount of copper.

The Grady County Sheriff’s Office currently has active investigations into recent copper thefts throughout the county, and tonight’s seizure adds valuable evidence to those ongoing cases.

Sheriff Prince commends his team and especially Sgt. Wesley Bradshaw for his proactive leadership and relentless efforts in the fight against illegal drugs in our community.

Sheriff Prince stated,

“Sgt. Bradshaw takes an active and aggressive stance in enforcing drug laws and working to eradicate illegal narcotics from Grady County.”

This was also the first deployment for one of Grady County Sheriff’s Office new K-9s. The dogs played a role in finding some of the narcotics and securing the scene. The K9s graduated from training earlier Friday and went straight to work.

The Sheriff reminds everyone: if you see something, say something.

Arrests made following K9 alert in Cairo:

While on patrol, Grady County Deputies observed 39-year-old Mark Rutledge of Cairo and 22-year-old Brianna Burton of Thomasville in the parking lot of the Valero Gas Station in Cairo. Deputies were aware that both individuals had active warrants from multiple counties, including Grady County.

Both subjects were taken into custody. A Grady County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was called to the scene, and the K9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered multiple bags of methamphetamine packaged for sale.

Rutledge and Burton were charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, and both are being held on their outstanding warrants and drug charges.

This marks the second deployment of one of the Grady County Sheriff’s Office K9s since their graduation on Friday. The first deployment also resulted in a trafficking in methamphetamine case. Sheriff Prince commended the deputies for their alertness and proactive work in keeping our communities safe.

If you or someone you know is struggling with drug or alcohol addiction and wants help, please contact the Grady County Sheriff’s Office or Sheriff Prince directly. Help is available, and recovery is possible.
