Their destination was the Cordele Lions Club, where the celebrations continued with a program that resonated with the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This annual tradition not only honors a great leader, but also fosters unity and commemoration within the Cordele community.

“This annual event that we are celebrating, we’re so happy to know that as a community, that we can come together to commemorate what Dr. King’s dream meant to us. It’s important for us to understand that today is not just a day to get together and march. We got together, had a good time, but it’s the importance and revelation of knowing that as we evolve into a people, we have to take hold of the many practices, that he wanted us to catch hold to. He believed in peace. He believed in the freedom. He believed that people have equal rights amongst themselves. And, today, it’s going to be a very important part of that,” said Pastor Isaac Owens.

“It’s important for us to realize that we can never stop dreaming. We can never stop hoping. And, we can never stop striving for the place to know that all things will come together, if we learn to work together and love each other as a community,” said Pastor Isaac Owens.

“I think the most important thing for us right now is to try the best that we can to encourage every single person. To try and make people understand that life, though it might be tough sometimes that we got to keep moving on. Because, much like Dr. King said, that “we are so close to the mountaintop.” He said so clearly that he had a dream, and that dream, was one day that dream was going to be fulfilled. And, we’re living right here on the precipice of that dream. So, today, it’s important that we continue to tell the story. That we tell the history. And, that we marvel at the accomplishments, but acknowledge that we still have a long way to go. To chart out a roadmap, to get us where we need to be at,” said Rev. Dr. Darrius Butler.
