Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority proposed retail development receives approval

MOULTRIE, Ga. – The Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority has announced a collaboration with a private developer on an ambitious new project aimed at bolstering the local economy.

This venture involves partnering with Georgia developers to enhance the tax base and generate employment by attracting additional retailers to Colquitt county.

The proposed shopping center, to be located at Rowland Drive and Veterans Parkway near Lowe’s, will encompass 88,000 square feet of retail space.

This initiative seeks to bring well-known national retailers, such as; Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, and Five Below to Moultrie-Colquitt County. The Development Authority’s primary objectives are to expand the tax base and create 100 full-time jobs and 33 seasonal positions.

According to the Moultrie Observer, Skylar Long of JVS CAPITAL and Development Authority Chairman Ross Dekle presented the $20 million development plan at separate monthly meetings. The project requires $5.6 million in funding, with contributions pledged by the Development Authority, the city, and county governments. The Development Authority has committed $1.8 million, while the city has pledged $985,000, and the county $2.8 million. The project is expected to be self-sustaining financially within the first few years.

After thorough deliberation and presentation, the proposal as taken to the Moultrie City Council and received approval.
