Motif non-profit residential sober living house for women receives approval by Dougherty Co. Commission
ALBANY, Ga. – An Albany group has gotten the zoning approval from Dougherty County for their rehabilitation home.
CBS 44’s Brian Roche has more about how the group is finally moving forward.
One Albany group is taking a big step forward when it comes to approval from dougherty county for this rural house to be their new home to help women.
We first met Maureen Taylor and Tiffany Cox in 2023 as they established Motif, a faith-based non-profit geared towards helping women deal with substance abuse.
Fast forward to Monday morning’s Dougherty County Commission Meeting where they were granted approval for zoning a home in a secluded part of the county.
“This is an amazing win for us, for our community. We’re just so grateful that the commissioners voted in favor of motif and that they see the need that we have in Albany and that they put their faith and trust in us,” said Maureen “Mo” Taylor, President, Motif.
Members of the surrounding neighborhood voiced their concerns to the Dougherty County Commission in January.
Maureen and Motif want to put them at ease.
“You know, we understand their concerns and that we don’t take lightly. We don’t want anyone in the community to ever feel at odds with us or unsafe. Like I said, I believe that it’s misinformation, disinformation, and maybe just a lack of knowledge of what exactly a sober living home is,” said Taylor.
“We look forward to being of service to them and just loving on them. You know, they are our neighbors and one day we may win them over, you know, with just pure love,” said Tiffany Cox, VP, Motif.
And, while they have approval, now they’re gearing up for the long road to turn this rural house into a home.
“The house is no good if it doesn’t have the women in it and that we can, you know, help them grow and further get ready to come back in society, healthy and home,” said Taylor.
Maureen says she hopes Motif can officially open the doors to the home this April.
