McCoy out as administrator; Dougherty County Commission votes to dismiss
Mccoy was fired by a four to three vote with Dougherty Chairman Lorenzo Heard casting the tiebreaker.
ALBANY, Ga. – Dougherty County has found themselves in need of a new county administrator following a decision at Monday’s commission meeting.
County Administrator, Michael McCoy is out of a job tonight after he was fired Monday morning during a vote.
According to the Commission, the vote to terminate McCoy came about when commissioners discussed whether McCoy had the authority to hire staff.
Ward 6 Commissioner Anthony Jones spoke to us Monday afternoon after he voted against McCoy’s termination.
Mccoy was fired by a four to three vote with Dougherty Chairman Lorenzo Heard casting the tiebreaker.

“On May 22, 2023, the Board of Commissioners of Dougherty County elected by majority vote to relieve Michael McCoy of his duties as County Administrator. We want to thank Mr. McCoy for his 26 years of service to Dougherty County and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
As we move forward in a different direction, our commitment to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Dougherty County while providing the services our citizens expect and deserve remains.
Again, we thank Mr. McCoy for his time with us and wish him well.”
