Lockwood Companies breaks ground on affordable senior housing community in Albany

Lockwood’s “Dogwood Trail Apartments II” will feature 40 units and continue the revitalization of the east Albany area

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – December 17, 2025 – Lockwood Companies, a leader in affordable and senior housing development, has broken ground on a new affordable senior housing community in Albany, Georgia. “Dogwood Trail Apartments II” is the second phase of the master planned redevelopment of the area. The announcement was made by Mark Lockwood, President & CEO, Lockwood Companies.

Situated on 3.46 acres and located at the intersection of Clark Avenue and Marie Road, Dogwood Trail Apartments II will feature 20 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom apartments for those aged 55 and up. The units will feature kitchen appliances, including dishwashers, washer/dryer connections, pre-wired for cable/Internet, designed for energy and efficiency and will be certified under the National Green Building Standards program. A bus stop is 0.2 miles away and shopping options are in a walkable distance of 1.5 miles.

“We are pleased to break ground on this transformative project, contributing to the continued revitalization of this East Albany neighborhood,” said Lockwood. “As in most parts of the country, the senior population here is greatly underserved. Dogwood Trail Apartments II will provide a high quality housing option with amenities and services that encourage a sense of community.”

In partnership with the Albany Housing Authority, Dogwood Trail Apartments II will offer eight units with project-based Housing Choice Vouchers. Four of the units will be targeted toward supportive housing for the community’s most vulnerable seniors. In addition, rent will be structured to serve residents at 30%, 50%, 60% and 70% of area median income.

Attendees at the groundbreaking event included elected officials, key city staff, local residents, and representatives from Lockwood Companies. Construction is estimated to take 14 months with a scheduled opening in winter 2027.
