Local barbershop to give back to school haircuts, supplies to help local kids
The barbershop will host the event on Sunday, July 30th at 1213 Dawson Road, starting at two in the afternoon.
ALBANY, Ga. – With the start of the new school year only a couple of weeks away, one local barbershop is looking to give back to some local kids.
Brandon Bracy runs Optimum Barbershop in Albany, and he and is staff are getting ready to help more than 100 kids get ready later in July for the start of school.
“Come out! Free haircuts for kids, braids for girls. And I just think it’s going to be a fun day. If you stay in Albany, we would love to see you stop by and show your face,” said Brandon Bracy, owner, Optimum Barbershop.
And, they’re planning to do more than just take a little off the top.
“We’re going to have a couple sponsors here as well giving away bookbags, things such as paper towels, Kleenexes that they may need in class. Papers, pencils, pens what have you like that,” Bracy said.
Optimum has held this event each of the last couple of years, and for Brandon, being a major pillar in the community feel like things have come full circle in his life.
“One of the things I’m very big on is giving back, cause I was given the chance, so I love to give to others. It’s like, my cup runneth over so someone else’s cup can runneth over, and their cup runneth over and it’s a trickle down effect,” said Bracy.
And, to some while it may seem like just a few locks of hair, for someone like Brandon, it can help to serve as a major life lesson.
“A child is one parent or one adult away from a successful story. So, we like to, again, going back to being a pillar in the community, we want to be here for the kids. Not just give them a haircut, but what we talk to them about when they’re in the seat…” said Bracy.
Brandon’s way of giving back is going to bring hundreds here, to make sure that just like his life, their cups run over as well, even with something as simple as a haircut.
