License plate camera system helps Dougherty County Police solve serious crimes

DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. — The Dougherty County Police Department (DCPD) is sharing how license plate recognition cameras, known as the Flock Safety system, have helped officers solve serious crimes and keep the community safer.

From 2024 through early 2026, the camera system helped investigators identify suspect vehicles, track movements and connect cases involving violent crimes and theft.

In 2024, the system helped solve:

  • One felony murder
  • Six aggravated assaults involving firearms
  • One-armed robbery and aggravated assault
  • One aggravated child molestation
  • One kidnapping
  • One aggravated stalking
  • Three burglaries
  • Two motor vehicles or cargo thefts
  • Three Felony Thefts

In 2025, the system assisted in solving:

  • Five aggravated assaults involving firearms
  • Three-armed robberies and aggravated assaults
  • Five burglaries
  • Three motor vehicle thefts
  • Two felony shoplifting rings that helped clear multiple related cases

In 2026, the system has already helped solve:

  • Two burglary cases

The camera system has also helped neighboring law enforcement agencies, including the Albany Police Department, solve multiple crimes through shared information and cooperation.

In addition to investigations, the Dougherty County Police Department’s Patrol Division uses the system during traffic enforcement. These efforts have led to arrests of wanted individuals, recovery of stolen property, seizure of illegal items and the issuance of traffic citations.

Police officials say the technology helps officers respond faster, share information with other agencies and focuses on preventing crime before it happens.

A Dougherty County Police Department officer will be available for interviews upon request to explain how the system works and how it supports public safety.

Media outlets interested in learning more or scheduling an interview should contact the Dougherty County Police Department.
