Lee Co. School System holds ribbon cutting on newly renovated primary school
LEESBURG, Ga. – Despite the wet conditions Wednesday morning, that didn’t stop members of the Leesburg community from coming out as the school system cut the ribbon on the new Lee County Primary School.
As an educator, Wednesday holds a special significance for Jamie Murdock, Lee County Primary School principal. She believes that on this day, she provides the best opportunities for her faculty and, most importantly, her students.
“You know, you want the best of the best. We have amazing teachers, we have amazing students, we have amazing parents. Everyone has been flexible and they embraced this construction. So, it’s just wonderful to be able to cut the ribbon and be able to welcome them into our brand new facility,” said Jamie Murdock, Principal, Lee County Primary School.
Murdock says the school was effectively rebuilt from the studs up, with many saying it’s essentially an all-new school.
Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Truitt tells us that how the new school is meant to accommodate students.
“I think we’ve looked at what are traditionally what are good learning spaces, and we’ve looked at flooring that’s sustainable, and we’ve looked at good learning spaces and making things look a little more open and flow better for learning,” said Dr. Kathleen Truitt, Superintendent, Lee County School System.
It was not an easy road over the course of the last year to get to Wednesday morning’s ribbon cutting.
“…It’s not the building that makes the magic, other than it’s the people inside it. So, our people have been on a journey, we are grateful for them. They have moved classrooms, they have lived out of boxes, they have been flexible to adjust their schedules throughout all of this construction,” said Murdock.
And, to many in the Lee County School System, it solidifies to them that Lee county is becoming one of the more prominent systems in the state of Georgia.
“We are going to put children first. And, I think all of our students are proud to be Lee County Trojans and it starts at the primary level. So, they’re just really excited for a new space,” said Dr. Truitt.
It’s a new era for the Lee County School System, with the renovated primary school giving the best possible start for students.
According to Lee County Primary School principal, Jamie Murdock, work on the renovated school began in 2022.
