Laken Riley murder suspect indicted on ten counts by grand jury

ATHENS, Ga. – 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra, the suspect in the tragic murder of 22-year-old Laken Hope Riley, has been indicted on ten charges related to her death.

Laken Riley, a nursing student at Augusta University in Georgia, tragically lost her life in February while visiting the University of Georgia Campus in Athens.

The charges against Ibarra include murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, and aggravated assault with intent to rape. Authorities allege that Ibarra struck riley with a rock and asphyxiated her during the incident.

The indictment further accuses Ibarra of peeping into the dormitory window of another woman on the same day as Riley’s death.

Represented by the Public Defender’s Office, Ibarra has declined to comment on the indictment as the case unfolds.
