Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful proposes tire disposal grant program to discourage illegal dumping
ALBANY, Ga. – In other local developments, one Dougherty county group is taking steps to discourage the public from illegally dumping tires across the city of Albany.
During Monday morning’s Dougherty County Commission Meeting, Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful addressed the prevalent issue of illegal tire dumping across the county.
Their proposal introduced a grant program aimed at enabling residents to dispose of multiple tires, free of charge.
The proposed date that they would hold the event would be September 14th.
We caught up with KADB Executive Director Jwana Washington to discuss the program’s details and its role in discouraging illegal dumping practices.
“It’s about educating the public on the proper way to dispose their tires. And, I think that once we get the word out that we are doing this, and changing the mindsets of people that ‘okay, there is a better way of getting rid of our tires other than just putting them on the side of the road’ or if we see another area full of tires, and trust me, they pop up overnight… This tire amnesty will give the citizens of Albany and Dougherty county the ability to bring any tires; now we can’t take commercial tires, or tractor tires or things like that. But, car tires: we will be accepting them. It’s give them the opportunity to not have to pay that disposal fee…” said Jwana Washington, Executive Director, Keep Albany- Dougherty Beautiful (KADB).
