Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday celebrated in Plains

PLAINS, Ga. – We move over to Sumter county now for a celebration with today being the 100th birthday of former President, Jimmy Carter.

Today is a big day to celebrate Georgia’s most famous resident, Jimmy Carter.

And, while plenty of people got to celebrate with the Plains Peanut Festival this past weekend, Tuesday afternoon is a little more formal.

The United States Charters of Freedom unveiled a display here in the heart of the former president’s hometown.

Now, I got a chance to speak with a couple of the people responsible for making this display featuring documents such as the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence a reality.

The couple were friends of both Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter and when they found out that the goal of Charters of Freedom was to place one of these displays in every state, they rallied to have this in the hometown of our 39th President.

And, while former President Carter was not able to speak on this unveiling of the Charters, his Grandson Josh wanted to thank everyone for their years of support to the Carter family.

Jimmy Carter is the first U.S. President to live to 100 years.
