J. Lane Theater hosts second annual Black History Month Film Festival in Albany

ALBANY, Ga. – Albany’s J. Lane Theater is celebrating Black History Month with its second annual Black History Month Film Festival, starting this Sunday, February 1. This free, family-friendly series highlights Black stories, leaders, and cultural impact through film, conversation, and community engagement.

The festival kicks off at 4 p.m. with a screening of Till, a historical drama honoring Emmett Till and the resilience of his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley. Each Sunday in February will feature a different film, accompanied by guest speakers, community discussions, and local vendors. Upcoming screenings include Ride to Freedom: The Rosa Parks Story on February 8, All In: The Fight for Democracy featuring Stacey Abrams on February 15, and 42, The Jackie Robinson Story on February 22.

Admission is free and open to all ages, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event offers a unique opportunity for families and community members to learn, reflect, and honor the legacies of Black Americans who have shaped history.
