Investigation continues on shooting near ASU campus
Son of local judge arrested - Steven John Weaver
ALBANY, Ga. – On Monday April 24, 2023, Albany Police confirmed a shooting near Albany State’s East Campus.
Around 7 p.m. officers responded to the intersection of Radium Springs Rd and E Oglethorpe Blvd, in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers saw a male and two females occupying a wrecked vehicle near Dollar General.
The females then explained they were shot at leaving the Scene Apartments on 405 E Whitney and the male was taken to Phoebe Putney with a gunshot wound.
Officials say the males in the vehicle fled the scene of an armed robbery they were apart of at the Scene Apartments…
The University sent out an email telling students to remain safe and in doors until they receive an “all clear”.
Officers then arrested and charged Steven John Weaver with armed robbery, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and transported him to the Dougherty County Jail.
Weaver is the son of Dougherty County’s Chief Municipal Court Judge, Willie Weaver…the 18 year-old was recently arrested in December for criminal trespass, possession of a pistol or revolver by person under 18, discharge of firearm on or near public high way or street.
APD says based on the investigation, more arrests are anticipated.
