NEW VACCINE GUIDELINES: WHAT PARENTS NEED TO KNOW

In August, President Trump signed an executive order aimed at reshaping the federal government’s approach toward childhood vaccines. The new federal guidelines proposes reducing the total number of immunizations recommended for children in their earliest years and advises that the mumps, measles and rubella (MMR) vaccine be separated into three individual shots. But experts say that there is no little scientific evidence to support the sweeping changes and warn that the executive order is likely to cause confusion among parents who are just trying to keep their children safe. “Even though this executive order has come out, the vaccine schedule itself actually hasn’t changed,” says Jen Kates, the Director of Global and Public Health Policy at KFF. “For parents, the main thing to know is you should know that you can protect your kids and other kids and follow the recommendations.” Correspondent Leigh Waldman has the story in a 3pET PKG with FREE custom talkbacks from New York.
