It’s a chronic and progressive disease that mostly affects women. Lipedema causes an abnormal buildup of fat under the skin in the legs, and sometimes the arms and lower body. It leads to significant physical disability and pain, but despite its prevalence, experts say this condition is often overlooked and undiagnosed.
