Hostage situation ends with two arrested in Brooks Co.

BROOKS Co., Ga. – On February 11, 2026, the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office responded to 840 Belcher Road in reference to the report of a possible hostage situation. Deputies received information that an armed individual was inside the residence.

Through the coordinated efforts of the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations & Narcotic Division, and assisting officers from the Brooks County School Police Department, the situation was brought to a safe resolution without injury and without any ongoing threat to the surrounding community.

Cody Lee Sorrell was arrested on outstanding warrants from both Georgia and Florida. Patricia Simmons was also arrested in connection with this incident.

Both individuals are currently being held at the Brooks County Jail pending further investigation. One additional individual was detained on scene and later released.

We are grateful for the strong teamwork, communication, and professionalism demonstrated by all responding agencies, which ensured this incident was resolved promptly and safely.
